KBC Opens State-of-the-Art Facility in Somerset
SOMERSET, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center is welcoming blood donors to its new Somerset Donor Center today.
The new facility, located at 10 Stonegate Centre at Stoplight 16A, will replace the former location, which closed Friday.
Designed to blood banking specifications, the new donor center provides ample room for registration, screening and donating. Space is also allocated to back up the operations at the Lexington headquarters if necessary.
Operating hours are:
- Monday & Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon
The new blood center was designed by CMW Architects of Lexington and will be built by Messer Construction.
The Somerset operation, which includes a staff of 35 who work either at the donor center or on blood drives, serves the following counties: Adair, Boyle, Casey, Clay, Cumberland, Garrard, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, McCreary, Mercer, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley. KBC also has donor centers in Lexington and Pikeville.
Donors who give through Aug. 2 will receive a $10 gift card. Also, donors 18 and over who register to donate through Sept. 13 will be automatically eligible to win a 2013 Toyota Prius, the grand prize in KBC’s Drive for Life summer promotion.
