New Donor Center Located at 14002 Shelbyville Road
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center has moved its Middletown Donor Center to a new location. The new building, located at 14002 Shelbyville Road, will welcome blood donors starting Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The new facility replaces the former location at 12905 Shelbyville Road, which closed on Saturday, Oct. 26. The new blood center was designed and built by A.L. Post, Inc.
Designed to blood banking specifications, the new donor center provides ample room for registration, screening and donating. Located in a rapidly expanding part of Louisville, on the edge of Middletown and Eastwood, the 4,200-square foot location is in the heart of a sprawling residential area, making it easier than ever for Louisvillians to save local lives.
“We are really excited to open our new Middletown location,” said Bill Reed, KBC’s president and CEO. “Our former facility – our first in Louisville – served us well for 10 years, but we have outgrown that space and believe there are better opportunities to serve our donors on the east end at Beckley Station and Shelbyville Road. This new location will provide better access to our donor base. When all things are equal and people are busy, convenience and access can be the difference in a donor deciding to make a lifesaving donation.”
Operating hours at Middletown are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. KBC’s other Louisville location in Hillview has the same operating hours. KBC has eight total donor centers in six cities, and hosts more than 2,000 mobile drives a year.
Kentucky Blood Center proudly supplies all blood needs for 70-Kentuckiana hospitals, including the entire Baptist Health system.
To schedule an appointment at either Louisville donor center or any other KBC donor center or mobile drive, donors can visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
Employment opportunities are available at the new Middletown location. To find out more, visit kybloodcenter.org/about-us/careers.
