KBC, GreenHouse17 Partnering to Save Kentucky Lives

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Blood Center donors can maximize their donation and support another important community need this holiday season thanks to a partnership with GreenHouse17, a local nonprofit domestic violence shelter.

At select KBC locations, donors can double their impact by opting to give the value of their donor thank you item to GreenHouse17. KBC donors generously save lives throughout the year, but the “Healing Together” campaign will provide additional resources to GreenHouse17 in its mission to help people harmed by intimate partner abuse.

The partnership began Nov. 25 and lasts through Dec. 14.

“We always appreciate our donors who step up to donate during the holiday season,” said Mandy Brajuha, VP of external relations. “In addition to providing local hospitals lifesaving blood products at a difficult time of the year for the blood supply, we have an equally easy and meaningful opportunity for donors to impact our community simply by passing their thank you item and we will donate the value of that item to this great nonprofit. We are proud to partner with GreenHouse17, which does wonderful work supporting and advocating for victims of domestic violence.”

Donors can give and give again at Lexington’s Beaumont donor centers, KBC’s Frankfort location or at select mobile drives taking place in the GreenHouse17’s service area. Please see below for a full list of remaining participating locations.

"Although our missions are accomplished in different ways, both of our organizations are committed to nurturing lives and need community support to be successful,” said Darlene Thomas, executive director of GreenHouse17. “It's my hope that our partnership will save lives by raising awareness about services for survivors of intimate abuse and the critical importance of donating blood."

To find a mobile drive, blood donors can visit my.kybloodcenter.org/donor/schedules/county or call 800.775.2522. The three participating donor centers are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Beaumont and Andover locations are open on Saturdays as well from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome.
