Church Celebrates Season with Region's Only Easter Blood Drive
LEXINGTON, Ky. – CenterPointe Christian Church in Lexington will celebrate Easter with a blood drive during the Easter Sunday service – the only blood drive in the region that day.
“The blood drive symbolizes what Jesus did on the cross for us,” said Kelly Hughes, church staff member and blood drive chairperson.
CenterPointe Christian Church meets in the Meadowthorpe Elementary gym at 1710 Forbes Road. The blood drive will also be conducted in the gym, and church members are encouraged to donate during the two services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. The blood drive will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
Having people donate during the services creates “an energy that is different,” said Hughes. “It’s a reminder of the gift from Jesus.”
This is CenterPointe’s second annual Easter Sunday blood drive, and Hughes said the church is hoping for 40-45 blood donors. Last year 33 people donated.
As an added twist this year, there is a contest between the men and women. There will also be prize drawings for those who register to give blood. Each donor will also receive a Kentucky Blood Center T-shirt.
Anyone in general good health, 17 years or age or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may donate. All donors must show a photo I.D.
The Kentucky Blood Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for 67 Kentucky hospitals and clinics thanks to generous blood donors in 62 Kentucky counties.
