All Donations Stay in State to Save Local Lives

Central Kentucky’s epicenter for events will be hosting one of its most important ones to date: a blood drive to save local lives.
Central Bank Center is partnering with Kentucky Blood Center to boost the summer blood supply. Donors in and around downtown Lexington are encouraged to donate blood at Central Bank Center anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 9.
All donations with Kentucky Blood Center stay in state to save local lives at more than 70-plus Kentucky hospitals. Whole blood donations typically take no more than 45 minutes from registration to refreshment, and one donation can save up to three lives.
Summer is historically a tough time of year for the blood supply. Donations at KBC in 2022 were down more than 12% from 2019, the last summer before the COVID-19 pandemic. During the same timeframe, transfusion frequency remains consistent, putting local lives at risk.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
