State Fair Blood Drive

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Celebrating all things Kentucky, the Kentucky State Fair would not be complete without a chance to save local lives in the state.

Kentucky Blood Center will once again offer an opportunity for fairgoers to donate blood each and every day at the 2022 Kentucky State Fair. KBC will be located in the south wing of the Health Horizons building at booth B401 collection blood donations daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“The Kentucky State Fair is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Mandy Brajuha, VP of external relations at KBC. “We are always excited to welcome back our loyal Fair donors and for the chance to introduce new faces to the experience of saving local lives. As the largest community blood center in Kentucky, we are proud to serve as a sponsor of this great event again in 2022.”

All donors who give blood with KBC at the Kentucky State Fair will receive is a “Giving is Good” T-shirt, a KBC trucker hat, and an entry for a fully loaded RAV4. KBC will also feature a daily prize wheel, which will give donors the chance to take home another great limited-edition KBC gift.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D., and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Blood centers across the country have faced unprecedented shortages of blood throughout the pandemic, and the summer months always see a drop in donations. With an increase in usage by the 70-plus Kentucky hospitals served by KBC, the nonprofit has found itself at an urgent or critical need throughout the summer months.

Blood donations help KBC supply blood to local hospitals for cancer treatments, premature births, car accidents, diseases, surgeries, and more. KBC needs approximately 400 donors a day to meet the needs of local patients but has fallen well short of that goal in 2022, putting patients at risk.

Donations at the Kentucky State Fair can help put blood back on the shelves before Labor Day weekend when demand typically increases.
