COVID-19 Antibody Testing at Donor Centers
September 14 - October 3
This has been a difficult year. At Kentucky Blood Center, we know there is a way to help: through the donation of blood and blood products–including convalescent plasma (CCP), used in the treatment of patients critically ill with COVID-19.
To help meet the rising demand for CCP, KBC will test all volunteer donations made in any of our six donation centers from September 14 – October 3 for COVID-19 antibodies. Donors will be notified of their antibody status via their donor portal within 7-10 days of their donation. Testing will not be done on autologous, therapeutic or directed donations.
Plasma derived from donations that test positive for the COVID-19 antibody could be designated as convalescent plasma and used to treat patients fighting COVID-19 at one of our partner hospitals. In addition, those with positive test results may be contacted regarding future convalescent plasma donations by our team.
