Blood Products Collection and Processing Programs

A financial gift to the Collection and Processing Programs assists Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) in providing vital services to patients needing transfusions in the nearly 70 hospitals and clinics that KBC serves in more than 60 counties in central and eastern Kentucky. Private support is a critical component in our efforts to meet those needs.

Your gift will go towards helping to offset the cost of laboratory processing, testing equipment or collections operations.

KBC operates donor centers in Lexington, Somerset and Pikeville and conducts more than 2,000 blood drives each year to provide the 100,000 blood products needed annually by Kentucky hospitals.

KBC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community blood bank.

Somerset Donor Collection and Critical Infrastructure Blood Storage Facility

KBC proposes to build a Somerset Donor and Critical Infrastructure Site which will provide a more convenient place for people to donate blood as well as a storage site for a large volume of blood components. This new facility will replace the smaller Somerset Donor Center location, which KBC now leases.

The new donor center will allow KBC to develop a regional approach to meeting increasing demands for blood – as well as the ability to meet those needs during a regional or national disaster.
The new facility will serve as the emergency back-up should a disaster strike Kentucky Blood Center’s main headquarters in Lexington, helping to improve regional and national disaster preparedness.

The Somerset Donor Center service area includes the following counties: Boyle, Clay, Cumberland, Garrard, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Lincoln, Madison, McCreary, Mercer, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne and Whitley.
