About Us

We Provide Life-Saving Blood Products to Kentucky Hospitals

Kentucky Blood Center is a community-based nonprofit organization providing lifesaving blood products to Kentucky hospitals since 1968. We strive to ensure every hospital we serve has access to a safe and abundant blood supply. KBC is the largest FDA-licensed nonprofit blood bank headquartered in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and relies on volunteer blood donors to provide 400 pints of blood per day to meet area patients’ needs.

SUPPLYING BLOOD TO KENTUCKY PATIENTS

Donated blood components are vital to a wide range of treatments, including cancer, trauma, sickle cell, organ transplant, surgeries and much more. More than half of all blood donations come from blood drives organized and hosted by volunteers at businesses, churches, schools and community centers. Blood drives can be indoors at host facilities with adequate space and amenities, or on specially-designed bloodmobiles. Community leaders who organize these drives perform a vital role in ensuring blood is available for Kentucky patients.

We are able to save lives only through the generous donation of blood from our donors.

Our Mission

At Kentucky Blood Center, our mission is to ensure a safe and abundant supply of life-giving blood to the hospitals we serve. We are here to support our local communities in any way that we are able by being an integral and valued partner in the healthcare arena.

Message from the CEO

Our tagline is: Live Local. Give Local. And that means something to us. Kentucky Blood Center is the place where donors come to support local patients while giving back to their community. When someone gives blood at one of our donor centers or blood drives, they are helping a Kentucky patient because blood donated with us stays in Kentucky. We are headquartered in Lexington but have donor centers and blood drives throughout the region. We offer Kentuckians the opportunity to conveniently give blood near where they live, work or worship. As the largest FDA-licensed blood bank in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, all 240 staff members take our mission of saving lives very seriously.
